Since I missed Macaron Day (3.20.10) this year (organized by François Payard himself to coincide with the jour du macaron in Paris), I would love to organize a Macaron Tasting Day to make up for it! If you haven't noticed my recent posts, macarons have been on the mind a lot lately. Here are the place I would like to include in theses macaron tasting "flights" (an ode to wine-tasting terminology!):
- *Madeleine Patisserie (Flatiron District, NYC)
- *MacarOn Cafe (Garment District / Midtown East, NYC)
- La Maison du Chocolat (Financial District, NYC)
- François Chocolate Bar (Upper East Side, NYC)
- DessertTruck Works (Lower East Side, NYC)
- *Financier (Financial District, NYC)
- Madeleine Macaron / Mad-Mac (Midtown East, NYC)
- Bouchon Bakery (Columbus Circle, NYC)
- Almondine Bakery (Dumbo, Brooklyn)
- Burdick Chocolate (Gramercy Park, NYC)
* denotes that I have tried macarons from these bakeriesFlights will include one of the following at each bakery:
- The "Signature": This is pretty much self-explanatory. The flavor for which the bakery is best-known.
- The "Common Denominator": We'll have to select a typical macaron flavor that will be present at all bakeries (e.g., vanilla, raspberry, etc.) to enable comparability between bakeries.
- The "Wild Card(s)": Open to suggestions, of course! After all, that's what makes it a "wild card"!
Who's with me?!
Please note that * in this post's title simply means that this tasting has not been executed or successfully accomplished.
i stumbled upon j'chanceux in soho/nolita a couple months ago. they have one that's earl grey flavored - really really good.
ReplyDeletealso, while you're at burdick's, you have to get their hot chocolate. i used to treat myself to hot chocolate at their location in harvard square - pricy for a tiny cup but it's pure deliciousness.
Duly noted. Thanks, Al!
ReplyDeleteI'd go, if I was in DC. Never had a macaroon before
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to get some when you're back in town! Or we'll have to scout some out in DC!
ReplyDeleteme. me. me. me. me.
